Design Development II

In order to take advantage of the view of the Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan, the floor area on the left side starts increasing as I go to the upper rooms, while the floor area in the right side decreases as I go to the upper floors. Both sites are connected by a bridge that looks down to the pool.

In this sketch I show the location of the important spaces that I will have in my hotel.

  1. Nice sketches, 2 comments though:
    1. even though the form of your concept model/building seems to be dependent on the views on the site, I don't see any study placing this design into its context.
    2. The curves of the building are directly taken from your concept model. However, it was a concept model, not a massing model or form study. If you had made the same concept model out of balsa sticks, would the hotel have ended up more linear?

  2. One of the previous assignments was to re-do our concept model and place it on the site. Therefore, I had to decide where I would direct some of the curves in relation to both the site and the program of my hotel.

If I had used balsa sticks for my model it would've definitely been more linear. Since I didn't want to get rid of the flowing motion of the mesh I used for the concept model, I used paper for the massing model so I could keep the curves and make it look more solid.
